Zhang Yixing Solo: “The Sweet Gift Satay Sedap”

On this occasion, I would like to share my translation of Guang Ming Daily article on Zhang Yixing’s 2022 solo concert in Malaysia.

Zhang Yixing who debuted in the popular K-pop group EXO and has returned to China for the past few years, held his first solo concert in Malaysia last Saturday evening. Yixing sang and danced to 23 songs in a row tirelessly. He also shared that he tried Malaysian dish, satay. He created an impromptu song "Satay Sedap" for the fans in the concert which made everyone excited.

Originally was a Chinese member in a Korean group (Zhang Yixing Lay), Yixing didn’t renew contract with his agency earlier this year. He then expanded his solo career and started his 10th debut anniversary tour, "Grand Line II: Infinite Lands". Grand Line 2’s first stop was Genting, and this concert has become the biggest concert to ever take place there in the history.

The short blond-haired Zhang Yixing who shone the whole stage like a sun. He did nine dance costume changes in the concert. His great ability to control the show was meticulous.

Yixing performed 29 songs in the concert, 23 of them were dance songs. Those songs were sung consecutively, burning the atmosphere and giving back the enthusiasm from the fans. Yixing also blended into Malaysian culture and learned some Melayu sentences, including "Apa Khabar", "Aku cinta padamu", and "Nama saya Lay" to introduce himself, making everyone feel closer to him.

Yixing described Malaysia as a beautiful country. Previously, he said that he wanted to try Malaysian dish. After arriving in Malaysia, he ate Malaysian local dish, satay. He really liked it and even made a song of it for his fans in the concert, "Satay Sedap". The way he repaid the love and support definitely made everyone respect him even more.

Zhang Yixing’s performances mixed Chinese traditional musical instruments such as hulusi and erhu, and also Beijing opera. Yixing exported culture through the way that suits young people’s interests. He even sang the lyrics of “Farewell My Concubine” opera on stage, stunning the fans who were watching.

A lot of fans from various ethnic groups were left speechless because of Zhang Yixing’s amazing performances. Yixing also mentioned how much he missed Malaysian fans. He promised not let the fans down and also he would keep working hard and dancing.
